It is hard to find the right words for someone who is ill. You want to cheer them up without making light of it. The good news is that the card does not have to be clever. It only has to say that you are thinking of them.
Warm get well messages
- "Thinking of you. Take all the time you need to get better."
- "We miss you, but we want you back healthy. Sending you lots of strength."
- "Sending you a big hug and wishes for a speedy recovery."
- "The team is thinking of you every day. Rest well."

Short get well messages
- "Get well soon!"
- "Wishing you a speedy recovery."
- "Rest up, we will keep your chair warm."
- "Better soon!"
Light-hearted get well messages
- "Hurry up, the coffee machine is acting up without you."
- "Doctor's orders: lots of rest and no e-mails."
- "We promise the inbox will still be there when you are back. Sadly."

What to avoid
- "Be strong" and "think positive." It puts pressure on a person who may be exhausted.
- Medical advice or stories about someone else who was ill. Leave that to the doctor.
- Questions about work. Do not mention deadlines, even as a joke.
- Too many exclamation marks. Warm and calm is better.
A group card for a sick colleague
A card with messages from the whole team shows that the person is not forgotten. Keep it light, ask for a photo of the team or the desk, and let it arrive by e-mail so the person can read it in bed. It is also nice to add something practical afterwards: a meal, a plant, an offer to help. Read more in a get well card for a sick colleague.

Make a get well card and share one link with the team. Everybody writes a message, and you choose when it is delivered.
